I look at this sketch and I think, “Goldarnit, she wasn’t such an ogre!” But then, that happens a lot. Somehow, if I try to draw from life, I always end up over-emphasizing the ugly bits, or even making them up.
That cost me my job once, but that’s a whole different story!

This is sort of the sequel to yesterday’s post; some more sketches for ‘Tomb of the Rabbit King’.
The skull may be so-so, but I really like the crazed look in the metallized Rabbit King’s eye (and the zipper, wich never really came through in the comic) – and once I’d made this sketch of the little rabbit giving the horned hand, the image just had to get on the page!

Here’s a concept sketch I made for Tomb of the Rabbit King. The badger drummer was spot on from the start, and our Dimmu Bunny guitarist more or less the same (although he got gimped way up in the final piece) – but I keep telling myself I got better at the guitar itself. Hooboy, there’s a reason it got cropped that way!

I don’t remember what I was doing at the station that night, but I was waiting for the last train, and I was tired as hell. Something rustled in the low shrubberies, and I quietly angled nearer to see what it was.
Well, the picture above spoils the suspense. The little fellas were snooping around in the dirt for scraps and breadcrumbs. My sketches don’t give them credit, either. For germ-carrying, lice-ridden vermin, they were cuter than a Beatrix Potter-subject.

And with a total scam I kick off this series of sketchbook clippings. The above aren’t my drawings of course, but made by my 7 year old son, Bastian (the top one is my reproduction of his drawing on a moist car window).
The notes in longhand say (top to bottom) “A skeleton that has loved everything” and “I can draw another kind of skeleton, too!”
Some of my own doodles tomorrow!

Last night, Wifey told me to prioritize my time. Excelllent advice; I’m not sure she meant blogging nor general internet activity, but I tend to think outside the box.
The site is still a work in progress in itself, but I’ll let most of the behind-the-scenes upgrading go for now, and get some content up. A lot of sketchbook pages have been scanned, and should start appearing from this monday forward. I’m prioritizing here, see?
I’ve had one project to finish off, and still putting last touches on that, which is a SECRET for another couple of months. That is totally useless information, of course, but it makes me feel important. Anyway, I’ll start work on the Astoria stories pieces again next week, and get ready for the big haul that will hopefully get the book finished in a year’s time.
Yeah, right.
Whichever way, check back after the weekend for sketchbook goodness, I’ll keep my eyes firmly on the road and keep you informed about what’s on the horizon
